Norfolk – Pauline Sod Levin passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 26, 2026.
She was born in Temple, Texas, on July 17, 1931, to Bertha and Joseph Sod. When she was four years old, her family – including her brother Louis – moved to Norfolk, Virginia. Pauline attended Maury High School, where she was voted “Most Witty,” a title that suited her perfectly throughout her life. She continued her education at Syracuse University before graduating from RPI, a division of the College of William and Mary. After graduation, she taught first-grade.
Shortly thereafter Pauline met the love of her life, the handsome Gilbert Levin. Together they built a beautiful life together, sharing a devoted marriage that lasted until Gilbert’s passing in 2013. They treasured traveling together and celebrating with their close lifetime friends and family. Pauline was deeply committed to her community and lived a charitable life. She was an active member of B’nai B’rith Women, Hadassah, and Temple Beth El.
Her family was the center of her world, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments. Pauline is survived by her daughter Sharon Lira (husband Tom) of Norfolk, son Ted Levin (wife Cindy) of Virginia Beach, and Lawrence Levin (wife Marianne) of Irvington, New York; her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Fine Shaw (husband Ryan), Blair Fine (husband Ian Kunkes); Jamie and Jonathan Levin; and Justin, Bailey, and Samantha Levin; and her great-grandchildren: Gaby and Maddie Shaw; and Edie and Gemma Kunkes.
Her elegant spirit, warm heart, and generous nature touched the lives of many and will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A graveside funeral service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations may be made in Pauline’s honor to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters or the charity of the donor’s choice.
