Virginia Beach – Richard F. “Dickie” Broudy, a longtime Norfolk and Virginia Beach attorney, husband, father, grandfather, fisherman, and friend, died peacefully on September 24, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born in Norfolk on December 19, 1930, he was the son of Israel Steven Broudy and Celia Jacobson Broudy. He graduated from Maury High School in 1949 and attended Washington and Lee University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1953 and law degree in 1955. He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar that same year.
Richard practiced law for nearly half a century, as a partner in various iterations of a firm with his uncles, brother, and close friends. For approximately 15 years, he practiced alongside his son Mitchell before retiring at age 71. His grandson Ross later continued the family tradition of practicing law. He served as a special justice and on a local real estate assessment board. A veteran of the United States Army Reserve, he served at Fort Eustis and as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer.
In 1956, Richard married Ina Morganstein. The following year, they built their family home on Hermitage Road, where they raised their sons, Steven and Mitchell. Richard and Ina enjoyed traveling, baseball, and spending time with family. They were longtime members of the Harbor Club and held Tidewater Tides season tickets for many years.
Ina died in 1992. Richard remained in their Hermitage Road home for another 27 years, living there for a total of 62 years before moving to the Summerhouse Apartments at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, where he became close friends with the staff and considered them family.
Dickie loved to fish and could often be found driving his Bronco onto the sands of Sandbridge in search of a good fishing spot. In Virginia Beach, he was a member of Temple Emanuel for more than six decades and was a longtime member of the Bayside Lions Club.
Known as “Papa” to his grandsons, Ross and Brett, he took a genuine interest in their lives and interests. He took both grandsons to Tides games and regularly attended their swim meets and music gigs. Not to be left behind, he took guitar lessons in his 80s. Both grandsons graduated from Virginia Tech, so Dickie became an enthusiastic Virginia Tech fan and, well into his 90s, played Pokémon Go with Ross. He was very proud of both of them and their accomplishments.
Richard had a quick sense of humor and was curious about just about everything. He was competitive and always seemed to appreciate finding a good legal loophole. He loved his dogs, buying gadgets online, fishing, and baseball, but most of all he enjoyed being around his family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Israel and Celia Broudy; his wife, Ina Morganstein Broudy; and his brother, J. Robert Broudy.
He is survived by his sons, Steve Broudy (Stacy) and Mitchell Broudy (Jean); grandsons Ross and Brett Broudy; Ross’s fiancée, Brittany Adams; Jean’s daughters, Kate and Jenny; and extended family.
A graveside funeral service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk.

Dickie lived a long and full life, surrounded by family, friends, and many of the interests he enjoyed throughout the years. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a proud Papa, a dedicated attorney, and a man who never lost his curiosity about the world around him.
