Ruby H. Schwarzschild

Lakeland, Fla. – Ruby Hainer Schwarzschild of Norfolk, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026 in Lakeland, Fla. 

 She was a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, chef, artist, and beloved pillar of her community.

 Ruby was born in Norfolk on March 13, 1945 to the late Herbert Hainer and Maddy Novenski Hainer. She is survived by her beloved husband, J William (Bill) Schwarzschild; her brothers, Bruce Hainer and Arthur Hainer; her sons Joseph (Joey) Schwarzschild and Barry Schwarzschild; and three grandchildren, Michaela Stringer (Joshua), Casey Schwarzschild, and Joshua Schwarzschild (Ashleigh).

A passionate artist, Ruby spent most of her life as a visual artist. Most known for her watercolor paintings of nature and birds, she received national recognition and honors for her work. Her love and dedication for the arts inspired those around her, including her grandchildren. She was a part of many committees and boards for local art societies both in Virginia Beach and her final home of Lakeland.

 She spent many years as a catering chef, specializing in Jewish weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and other cultural events. She ran Ruby & Company Catering out of Virginia Beach for many years.

 Ruby was best known for her generosity, selflessness, and compassion for her community. She was always there to help and took great measures to ensure those around her felt loved and respected. Her love and warmth came through in her art, her cooking, and her actions towards others. She will continue to inspire those she touched and will be deeply missed.
