Silver Spring, Md. – Renie Teitelman (nee Becker), passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at her home at Riderwood Village, Silver Spring MD, on Monday July 27.
Renie was a native of New York City, a longtime resident of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and a resident of Riderwood Village for the last 12 years.
Renie was born in Brooklyn N.Y., the daughter of Morris and Ethel Becker, and grew up in the Laurelton neighborhood of Queens. After graduating in 1950 from Queens College and completing her student teaching assignment in Roslyn, N.Y. (where famed author Michael Crichton was one of her students), she visited relatives in Savannah, Ga. One day while standing in line at a neighborhood bakery – surely a foreshadowing of her skills as a baker – she met a young dentist named Dr. Stanton J. Teitelman. On Christmas Eve 1950, they married and remained together until his passing in 2009.
After Stan completed his military service, Renie and Stan relocated to Norfolk, where her older brother Bill and her parents had moved. Together Renie and Stan raised a family of four children, became involved in the local Jewish and medical community, and developed friendships that lasted for decades.
As was typical of the times, Renie was a full-time wife, homemaker, and mother to four children. She was a voracious reader, a renowned cook whose dinner parties were legendary, and an avid attendee at museums, concerts, theater productions, and movies. She and Stan traveled extensively, frequently attending dental conventions in New York City and around the world.
Renie is survived by her three daughters – Dr. Jodi Teitelman of Richmond; Dana Weinberg (Carl) of Stamford, Conn.; and Randy Browner (Jeffrey) of Woodbridge, Va.; by her four grandchildren: Adam Browner (Lindsay) of Falls Church, Va.; Mark Browner of New York, N.Y.; Eva Weinberg of Los Angeles; and Max Weinberg of Los Angeles; and by her great-grandson Austin Browner.
Renie was predeceased by her husband Dr. Stanton J. Teitelman, her son Gary Teitelman, her parents Morris and Ethel Becker, and her brother Dr. William Becker.
The funeral took place graveside at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
