For Tom Purcell, summer 2020 was the best of times and the worst of times.
The pandemic continued to keep people away from their favorite sushi joints, hair salons, and gym-based training sessions.
Purcell is Type A and Plan B. When it comes to fitness and his clients, the Simon Family JCC wellness director is unstoppable.
Purcell was recognized as the winner of the national JCC 100 Day Summer Fitness Challenge. The entrants were judged by how many people they train in 100 days. He topped the list with 155 sessions.
“I’m honored that I was #1 in the Summer Fitness Challenge. This says more about my dedicated clients who I’ve been working with for years. I have the blessing each day to help improve lives, achieve goals, and have fun doing it. Purpose in life is very important to me and I like knowing that what I do matters to others around me,” says Purcell.
Training isn’t the only fitness activity taking place at the JCC. A wide range of classes are currently offered virtually and LIVE for those who want to work out at home. Members can sign up to reserve a spot in a wide variety of classes. “We have most of our LIVE classes held in the Jaffe Gymnasium to practice proper social distancing,” says Purcell.
Classes in the gymnasium include Bootcamp, HIIT & Abs, Pilates, Zumba Gold, Cardio Kickboxing, and more. Chair Yoga with meditation is offered at The Zone. The Indoor Pool offers Water Fitness and Water 4 Arthritis.
The JCC offers free week-long passes for anyone to test the gym and a member referral program that can give current members months off their dues for each member they refer who signs up.
